Thanks to their incredibly fast metabolism, some people can eat whatever they want and still be slim. On the other hand, some people can’t lose weight no matter what they do. In this case, it’s not the things you do that boost your metabolism, it’s the things you do that slow it down.

Here are the real reasons why you store more fat:

You gave up on carbs

Carbs are very important for your health and perform numerous body functions when you’re exercising. They give the body glycogen which provides energy, which means that no carbs equal no energy. By giving up on carbs, you won’t have the required energy to go through the day, and without it, your body won’t burn fat as well.

You cut the snacks out

Cutting the snacks out only slows down your metabolism. Snacks are what keeps the metabolism running all day long, so don’t stop eating them. However, this doesn’t mean that you should gobble on chips – try some healthy snacks such as walnuts or almonds as they can help you lose more weight.

Don’t be afraid of coffee

Drinking black coffee throughout the day can keep your metabolism running at full speed since caffeine increases your breathing rate and heart rate and stimulates the central nervous system.

Drinking coffee will also give you an energy boost which peaks about 3 hours after consuming a cup.

Too much heat

Try sleeping in cold rooms because the cool temperature will boost your body and start warming it, effectively burning calories as well.

Intensify your workouts

A HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout will give your metabolism a significant boost and help you burn more calories. Consuming more oxygen will carry over into the post-workout, which is why you should try this type of exercise. Start with 5 minutes of low intensity and follow it up with a minute of high intensity training, then continue with 4 minutes of low intensity workouts.

Repeat the process for 20-25 minutes at least 3 times a week.

Eating the wrong breakfast

You need to eat the right food for breakfast in order to jumpstart your metabolism. The best choices are protein-based meals as they require energy from your body in order to digest and break down food. Eating Greek yogurt along lean meat, oats and eggs should work well.

Eating proteins for breakfast will also make you feel full for longer as the body needs more time to digest proteins, which will result in less calories consumed through the day.

Keep dairy products around

Consuming dairy products will keep your metabolism running high and also help you build muscle mass. To burn more calories, you should target lean muscle in training as it keeps the muscles and metabolism active during the day.

Consuming dairy will also clean waste from your body, and the high calcium content will help your body metabolize fat quickly.
